The Istanbul Half Marathon was first organised in 1987. After several breaks, it was finally brought back to life in 2015 when the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the new sponsor organised the race again. Since then, the N Kolay Istanbul Half Marathon is a popular destination on the map of the most popular half marathons in Europe.
The course of this race runs almost entirely on the coast of Sea of Marmara on the European side of Istanbul. The start and finish lines of Istanbul Half Marathon are located on the coast of Golden Horn in Balat.
